GGF BEGINS SEARCH FOR NEW CHAIR AS SUCCESSOR TO CATLETT 03.15.04 NEWSFLASH GRIDtoday ============================================================================== The Global Grid Forum Steering Group announced that it is initiating a search for a new GGF chair as a successor to Charlie Catlett, who will complete a five-year term as founding chair of GGF in October of this year. Catlett will continue his role as a member of the GGF Steering Group and GGF editor of Grid standards. "As founding chair, Charlie has made a significant contribution to the Grid community and to standards development over the past five years, including establishing the GGF's standards process, governance structures, and the Secretariat," said Paul Messina, chair of the GGF Advisory Committee. "Under Charlie's leadership, the GGF has expanded from a primarily U.S.-focused effort to a global community with thousands of participants from over 400 organizations in 50 countries around the world." "This is an exciting time for the GGF, as Grid computing evolves from the scientific to the commercial sphere and with continued growth in participation and impact of GGF's activities. We have a solid steering group comprised of leaders from seven companies and eleven universities and laboratories as well as a strong support team led by Steve Crumb, GGF's executive director," said Catlett, a senior fellow at the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory. "At the same time, with the tremendous growth of GGF, we must expand and strengthen our leadership team. I look forward to working with the new GGF Chair while focusing on my role as GGF editor, ensuring that the work of the community produces a high quality series of specifications and other documents." GGF, the home of the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA), is a community-initiated forum that promotes and supports the development, deployment and implementation of Grid technologies to support enterprise or "utility" computing requirements.
